Business and Ecosystem Resilience Are Connected

The resilience of businesses and the ecosystem are intrinsically linked. Businesses are directly reliant on the natural and ecosystem resources that are vulnerable to climate change impacts. When climate and ecosystem disasters occur, businesses suffer financially and operationally. Climate change and ecosystem disasters disrupt business operations and global supply chains, damage property, and impact the health of employees and customers.

Sustainability is a step in the direction of managing climate risks and crises. It is reducing harm, including rationing resources and mitigating our impact. However, we must go a step beyond harm reduction and move to regeneration. Regeneration is focused on leaving the Earth even better than we found it. It’s understanding that nature is a living system to be participated in, contributed to, and renewed. Regeneration incorporates a systems lens approach, where organizations recognize that to build business resilience, the planet must also be resilient.
